Zakat

At ICOB we have a 100% Zakat policy which means that we either directly distribute the funds to those in need from our community or work with non-profits that offer matching 100% Zakat policy.
Do note, however, that different donation options have different transaction fees. While Zelle and stock donations typically have 0% transaction fees, credit cards charge between 2 and 3% depending on the card (Amex is the most expensive one). ACH transactions usually cost $3-5 per transaction depending on the amount. Please take that into account when calculating your zakat payment amount.

Credit Cards and ACH/eChecks are the most convenient donation methods. Use can use Mohid kiosk in the masjid as well as the online donation form to donate to a variety of programs. Zelle
Use Zelle to send donations with 0% transaction fee. Ideal for Zakat and Sadaqa.
One important note about Zelle! When we receive payment confirmations from the bank, we only see the account holder’s name – not the sender’s email or other details. To ensure your donations are properly reflected in your annual tax receipt from ICOB, we need to match your name to your email address. The easiest way to do this is to donate at least once through MOHID or Stripe, making sure the name on those platforms matches your bank account name exactly.

Stocks
Donating stocks provides a number of tax benefits. By donating appreciated assets that you’ve held for more than a year, you can save on capital gains taxes (and potentially the net investment income tax). At the same time, you can deduct the full market value of the gift, subject to certain annual limits.
There are two ways to donate stocks to ICOB.
First is to transfer the stocks directly. Here is a link from Fidelity explaining the process. If you have an account with Fidelity the transfer fee is 0%. If you have an account with another brokerage firm, please contact them for transfer instructions and fees.

The second option is to use a Donor Advised Fund like Fidelity Charitable. Donor Advised Funds usually charge an annual maintenance fee, however they are easier to work with and provide a way to deduct funds ahead of the actual donation.
